The energetic and inspiring ensemble!
The London Community Gospel Choir is the United Kingdom’s first renowned contemporary “touring gospel choir,” blending gospel music with various genres including pop, soul, jazz, R&B, and classical music. Founded in 1982, they have performed with artists such as Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Gorillaz, and Kylie Minogue. The choir is known for its funky gospel sound, swing-beat, rhythm and blues, traditional and soulful arrangements, lively choreography, and vocal virtuosity.
Initially, they planned a single concert performed by a 120-member choir before an audience of over a thousand. That one-time event turned into a permanent choir, which has been performing for more than 25 years.
Following the success of their first concert, the choir received invitations to perform on television and radio, as well as at various corporate events across the UK and Europe. The group made their television debut on Channel Four's Black on Black, and The Guardian described them as “controversial, professional, energetic, inspiring and uplifting.”
They recorded a version of OutKast’s “Hey Ya!” with Razorlight, appeared on Will Young’s debut album From Now On, and sang on Blur’s hit “Tender.” They also featured on Erasure’s 1995 album and on Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ 2005 double album Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus. Additionally, they appeared on the tracks “Don't Get Lost in Heaven” and “Demon Days” on Gorillaz’s Demon Days album. The choir has also worked on music with Paul McCartney, Elton John, Westlife, Elkie Brooks, Tori Amos, Drumsound and Bassline Smith, Madonna, Paper Route, Dermot Kennedy, Gregory Porter, The 1975, and Brockhampton.
