Masterpieces by the 100-Member Gypsy Orchestra and its Concert Orchestra

Margaret Island Open-Air Theatre
Running time: 140 minutes (with one intermission)
In 2026, the 100-Member Gypsy Orchestra will once again perform at the Margaret Island Open-Air Stage, on the eve of the celebration of the founding of the Hungarian state, August 20. The orchestra entitled to use the designation “Hungarikum –Outstanding National Value” since March 18, 2014, now looks back on a history of more than four decades; in 2025 it celebrated the 40th anniversary of its founding on this very stage.
The evening’s program traditionally builds on the encounter between classical music and Hungarian Gypsy music. The special repertoire features works by masters such as Franz Liszt and Béla Bartók, interwoven with the incomparable sound world of Hungarian Gypsy music.
In 2026, the orchestra will also embark on a world tour, planning to bring this Hungarian national treasure already rightly recognized on the international level to the concert halls of major cities in the Far East, America, and Europe. Thus, the Margaret Island performance is not merely a concert, but a forerunner of the journey on which Hungarian musical culture will once again take its place on the world’s most significant stages.
