Energy-Saving Measures at the Margaret Island Theatre
Sustainability and environmental protection are of particular importance to our theatre, and this commitment is nothing new. Our institution has been operating its own solar power system for several years, independently of the current economic situation.
At the same time, in line with the requests of the Government and our maintaining authority, and in order to mitigate the effects of the energy crisis, we have significantly reduced our institution’s energy and water consumption.
As part of these energy-saving measures, the Water Tower and the Margaret Island ticket office will remain closed this week. We have also switched off the two LED information screens and the decorative lighting of the Water Tower. The ticket office will only be open on performance days in order to serve customers wishing to purchase tickets.
To help mitigate the effects of the energy crisis, the theatre has introduced the following immediate energy-saving measures:
- The Water Tower will remain closed.
- The Margaret Island ticket office will remain closed, except on performance days.
- The decorative lighting of the Water Tower has been switched off.
- The LED information screens have been switched off.
- During the week, the ticket office will only open on performance days to serve customers purchasing tickets.
What Will Happen to the Performances?
Despite these restrictions, we intend to hold all scheduled performances. Events will continue to take place unless an official government order is issued requiring their suspension.
During the organisation and operation of performances, we will naturally continue to pay particular attention to reducing energy and water consumption.
Long-Term Environmental Responsibility
Environmental awareness is not a new priority for our institution, as we have been operating our own solar power system for several years.
As a fully licensed and essential part of Budapest’s cultural life, our theatre will continue to strive to meet the needs of both the public and the cultural community to the greatest possible extent, while maintaining a responsible and economical approach to the use of resources.
